Most unlikely of groups, members of “The Four Horsemen” of atheism now concede that the decline of Christianity is beginning to seriously hurt society.
In 2007, four prominent atheists, Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Daniel Dennett, filmed a landmark conversation to discuss modern atheism that became the text of the book “The Four Horsemen.”
The book is now earned the group the nickname of “The Four Horsemen of Atheism.”
One of Christianity’s most famous critics, evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins has led the way as the world’s most prominent atheist. Dawkins’ 1976 book, The Selfish Gene, popularized a gene-centered view of evolution, as well as introduced the term meme.
But what really put Dawkins on the atheist map was his seminal work: The God Delusion (2006).
But as Christianity started to make a noticeable decline in the world, by 2018 Dawkins began to voice serious concerns about what a world without religion might look like. Dawkins said that the “benign Christian religion” might be replaced by something, not at all benign.
Dawkins suggested that perhaps we all should take a step back to discuss what kind of world we might be facing if the banishment and destruction of Christianity is successful.
Dawkins went a step further telling The Times in the UK that ending religion would actually be a terrible idea. The absence of religion, Dawkins said, would “give people a license to do really bad things.”
“People may feel free to do bad things because they feel God is no longer watching them,” Dawkins said.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
– Proverbs 1:7
The four Horsemen of atheism are all highly intelligent men. Perhaps, it is that very intelligence that made them feel so wise as to not need the instruction of “a god” in their lives. Who knows.
The Bible certainly spoke on this concept in many verses in addition to the one above.
“Claiming to be wise, they became fools,”
– Romans 1:22
Begrudgingly, perhaps, these atheists can’t ignore the obvious enter now willing to admit it. Christianity has and does some good in the world.
“It might bring the crime right down,” Dawkins admitted that religious beliefs do affect the behavior and conduct of the stable society.
But the truth goes much further. All around the world where Christianity is strong, society is strong and productive. In areas where religion is lacking, chaos and totalitarianism reigns supreme.
Where more religion and Christianity exist, more abundant human rights and freedoms exist.
The conclusion is clear:
Religion is a cornerstone of a stable and just society.
“Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,”
–1 Timothy 4:1
Unfortunately, these atheists who have been instrumental in helping to lead the decline of religion are only realizing, too late, the harm that an absence of religion will do to the world.
The Bible, through the words of Jesus Christ, has already predicted what is to come. There is going to be a great falling away from religion. In fact, it has already begun.
It is predicted that within 20 years in many places around the world, Christianity will no longer exist.
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”
