We can often feel frustrated in life because our plans don’t seem to be coming to fruition, but it is God who has established a plan for us in this life, and many people have found success when and where they weren’t looking.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
We’ve all been through it. We spend time making plans. Then things don’t work out the way we expected them to. We become frustrated.
How many sleepless nights have you spent worrying because things aren’t what you expect them to be?
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”
– Matthew 6:25
Faith in God is what matters. Speaking further of worry, Jesus said:
“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”
– Luke 12:25
Worrying does not help anything. Jesus wanted humankind to know that God, the creator of all, establishes our paths and ensures that we have what we need. He knows what we need before we ask. Jesus said, that with faith:
“For nothing will be impossible with God.”
– Luke 1:37
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
There’s a quote sometimes attributed to the writer/director/actor Woody Allen, but some say it’s an old Yiddish proverb: “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.”
Amazing things can happen when we put our trust in God and allow him to put us on the path that was meant for us.
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
God can see the future. We can’t. If we could, we would know which stocks to buy, which lottery numbers to pick and a whole host of other things. But we can’t. We can only take educated guesses at things and hope from the best from there.
But for those who put their faith and trust in the Lord, sometimes God takes them to places they never dreamed of, since them down path they otherwise never would have considered on their own. Sometimes people find success doing things they almost rejected.
One example is Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington failed at a college. He had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. But an encounter with a stranger in his mother’s beauty parlor literally changed his life, Guideposts reports. “I have a prophecy,” the woman told Denzel and asked for a pen and paper. “Boy, you are going to travel the world and speak to millions of people.”
A few months after that, Denzel decided to pursue acting. We know it happened from there. He became one of the world’s leading actors. But more than that, Denzel is one of the few in Hollywood who does not hold back proclaiming his faith. He has even said that early in his life he had a belief that he was meant to be a preacher, something he still feels even today.
Another example is the beloved children’s writer R. L. Stein, most famous for the Goosebumps series. He initially wanted to be and was a humor writer. It was only by a fluke that a publisher asked him to take a crack at writing horror when there was a problem with another writer. R. L. Stein almost said no. But reluctantly, he decided to give it a shot.
His Goosebumps series alone have sold over 350 million copies in his Fear Street series household over 80 million copies. Goosebumps is ranked the #2 best-selling book series of all-time behind Harry Potter, by Ranker and by Investopedia.
